Adapter - Adaptors mate the modern 1.1 kw or 2.0 kw gear reduction starters to the air-cooled Vanagon bellhousings, manual and automatic WBX bellhousings, as well as the Vanagon/Syncro diesel bellhousings.
Pigtail - Locking connector splices to the stock Vanagon starter wire to provide a secure, factory-like electrical connection to the starter.
SR0425N/SR0425X (1.1kw) starter replaces part number OE 02A911023LX. This starter is for gas/petrol applications ONLY. NOT FOR DIESEL APPLICATIONS. This starter is roughly 23mm shorter than the SR0408X/SR0408N TDI starter, and may be a preferable alternative for Syncro applications where limited clearance is a concern.
SR0425N/SR0408X (2.0kw) starter replaces OE part numbers 02A911024D or 02A911023R. For a 2wd Vanagon application, his starter can be used for either gas/petrol or diesel engines. For a Syncro application, the use of this starter requires modifications to the diff lock actuator bracket.
- Note - This high torque gear-reduction type starter is slightly longer than the stock WBX starter, and has a self-supporting shaft, so it no longer requires the pilot bushing to position the shaft end. On Syncro applications with a locker, a 3/4" notch will be required in the diff-lock bracket, and you must use the longer (2.25") type bracket and corresponding locker pin.
- Note - In addition to the WBX, these adaptors will work with ALL conversions using a Kennedy, Eurospec, late-SmallCar, Vanaru, or Tiico engine adaptor plate and stock-diameter ring gear + WBX (will not fit the very early Small Car cast bellhousing with the small diameter starter hole). The manual, non-diesel version of the adapter will also work on 1975-up manual Buses.
- Note - The automatic version adaptor is essentially a thicker version of the manual adaptor - and has been shown to be a good fit for the earlier Bus or Beetle manual transmission (70's) so we've got you covered there as well.
